Flow Cytometry

Flow cytometry is used in the diagnosis of leukemia and lymphoma. Specific antigens of various fluorescence are used to label the cells and these cells are then passed through a laser based instrument for sorting. It is a rapid test with results available within 24 hours. The result will aid in further selecting appropriate technologies for full diagnostic testing.

At Tesis Labs, we use a state-of-the-art 10-color 3-laser cytometer which allows for smaller sample volume to be submitted, decreased run time, and increased accuracy in population identification.

Our technology is up to 3 times more sensitive than the competition, shortening the turnaround time and increasing the accuracy of the results.

    Flow Cytometry and Tesis

Tesis Labs is on the cutting edge of diagnostic offerings for high complexity Flow Cytometry Testing.

Helping physicians and patients by providing clinically appropriate testing where accuracy and timelines are at the heart of Tesis Labs business model.

    Cancer Types

Cancers found in the blood, bone marrow, and tissue (Leukemias, Lymphomas, Plasma Cells).

    Such as:

    • Acute Myeloid Leukemia
    • Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
    • Chronic Lymphocytic
    • Leukemia

    Notable Symptoms

    • Stomach-ache
    • Fatigue
    • Unexplained weight loss
    • Unexplained body pain
    • Bone pain

    High Risk Patients

It is rare for cancers of this type to be inherited but certain shared life experiences can cause you to be more at risk, such as exposure to radiation and, side effects of other cancer treatments.

Flow Cytometry Tests Available at Tesis Labs

    Leukemia Lymphoma Panel

Comprehensive tests are done on all incoming bone marrow and blood samples. This test includes B-Cell, T-Cell, and myeloid markers. It will also show if additional flow tests such as plasma cell, hairy cell, acute leukemia are needed to differentiate further. These additional tests are added automatically by the clinical staff.

    Tissue Panel

This is done on fluids and tissues and includes B-cell and T-cell markers. Myeloid markers are excluded as tissues normally only consist of lymphocytes. A few myeloid markers are included in this panel to make sure we do not miss a disease state; if detected, tissue panels can be converted to leukemia-lymphoma panels at the pathologist’s discretion. As with Leukemia Lymphoma panels, additional tests above can also be added to tissues if needed.

    PNH Panel (Blood only)

This is our only red blood cell test in flow cytometry. This test uses GPI-linked antigens to diagnose

PNH (lack of GPI proteins on monocytes and granulocytes).

ZAP70 – This is a reflex test if results are positive for CLL, added only with permission from the client.

CSF – Short one tube test performed on spinal fluids as they have low cellularity.
